Research Findings on the Global Impact of the Dobbs Decision
KMET is pleased to have participated in the significant research initiative led by Fòs Feminista. This innovative research, launched by Fòs Feminista, marks the first-of-its-kind effort to trace the repercussions of the Dobbs decision on laws, policies, narratives, and movements across Colombia, India, Kenya, and Nigeria.
In 2022, the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturned the long-standing precedents of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pa. v. Casey, fundamentally altering the constitutional right to abortion in the United States after nearly 50 years. Despite its profound impact within the U.S., it is noteworthy that the Dobbs decision does not change the nation’s commitment to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in its foreign assistance initiatives. However, on a global scale, this decision sends ripples through abortion politics, empowering attacks on bodily autonomy and abortion access at regional and country levels.
Fòs Feminista, in collaboration with Asia Safe Abortion Partnership, CommonHealth, Education as a Vaccine, Generation Initiative for Women and Youth Network, KESWA, KMET, Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health, and the YP Foundation, embarked on a comprehensive study spanning Colombia, India, Kenya, and Nigeria.
The research delves into the profound impact of the Dobbs decision on laws, policies, narratives, and movements in these diverse regions, shedding light on the global reverberations of this pivotal moment in reproductive rights history. Read the full report here.
